Qld:Substation thieves put their own lives at risk: Ergon

Enron Energy says thieves who broke into an electricity substation west of Brisbanerisked their own lives and those of other people.

The power distributor says the break-in occurred at Moore in the Brisbane Valley on Monday night.

Thieves had forced a locked gate and broken into a control building, stealing a firstaid kit and fire extinguishers.

Ergon spokesman JOHN CROSBY says the sub-station had up to 66,000 volts running throughit, and the thieves could easily have electrocuted themselves.

Anyone convicted of interfering with electricity supply equipment could face fines ofup to $3,000 or six months' jail.

Police are investigating the incident.
